Office-Based Opioid Treatment
Harbor Hall’s office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) program is a medically managed program that provides treatment services to persons with opioid use disorders. Please call (231) 347-9880 for more information.
How Do You Know if You’re Addicted to Opioids?
While there isn’t a blood test or other lab work to diagnose addiction, there are distinctive behavioral indicators that the disease has taken hold. If you obsess about getting the drug and using the drug and then spend the remainder of your time recovering from the effects of substance abuse, you’re probably looking at addiction. Other telltale signs include compromising your values, behaving in ways that put yourself or others at risk, and experiencing negative consequences in your relationships and other aspects of your life because of your use.
How Is Opioid Addiction Treated?
Heroin and opioid treatment programs and services vary by provider and by the type and level of services needed to effectively address your particular situation. Here are some key components of successful opioid addiction treatment programs:
- Medication assisted withdrawal
- Medical, mental health and substance abuse history assessments
- Mental health services
- Medical services
- Medication-assisted treatment
- Group and one-to-one chemical health services
- Wellness and fitness
- Twelve Step Facilitation
- Nutritional counseling
- Individualized planning
- Family services
- Spiritual care
- Educational and experiential workshops
- Post-rehab planning
Central to treatment are medications, typically Suboxone (buprenorphine-naloxone) and Vivitrol (extended-release Naltrexone) are provided in combination with other medical and psycho-social interventions designed to realize a person’s highest achievable recovery. Based on the assessed the American Society of Addiction Medicine ASAM) level and the needs of the person served, Harbor Hall provides a comprehensive array of treatment services that includes counseling (individual and group), medication supports, social supports, continuing care coordination and other recovery enhancing services designed to enrich an individual’s quality of life.
Comprehensive Opioid Response with the Twelve Steps (COR-12)
The COR-12 program is an evidence based program that include the use of medications. These medications for opioid use disorders are an adjunct—an addition—to other treatment programming, such as extended psychological and psychiatric care, counseling based on the Twelve Steps, and other therapies. Harbor Hall believes that the medications without any supporting program is not as effective as participating in a program that combines both.
A client’s decision to take part in the Harbor Hall’s Office-based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) program is voluntary and made in consultation with a team of medical and addiction treatment professionals. A person must have an opioid use disorder to be eligible to participate in this program.

Our Therapeutic Approaches
Clinical
Clinical treatment focuses on the mental and emotional aspects of addiction and integrates therapy and counseling into a broader treatment plan. Clients engage with trained professionals to help them understand how addiction occurs. There can also be levels of co-occurring disorders that accompany addiction.
Recreational
Recreation is a key component to the treatment program at Harbor Hall. We are fortunate to have such great community partners who help facilitate these opportunities in Northern Michigan. Additionally, the residents of Harbor Hall donate their time to many of these organizations, including Camp Daggett, as their community service.
Spiritual
“We are all spiritual people experiencing humanness”. At our Residential treatment facility, we have observed a majority of clients report resentments, assumptions, suspicions and contempt towards God, the concept of Higher Power, religion, and spirituality. While we are not a “faith-based” organization, our open-minded support and guidance surrounding the concept and contempt of spirituality, God, or religion has remained a highlight of the overall client experience in our treatment program.
