Bachelor’s Degree: Social Work, Madonna University
Matt Riley has been in the Human Services field for the past nine years, the last three as a Primary Substance Abuse Counselor at Harbor Hall. His experience serving those in need includes working in Cheboygan for the Salvation Army and managing a Sober Living Unit for men and women in recovery.
Earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Matt has added university credentials to his ten years of personal recovery work. His experience, combined with his education, makes for practical application in guiding and mentoring individuals as they transition into society free from the use of drugs and alcohol.
Today’s youth present unique and challenging situations. Matt’s abilities and motivational interviewing techniques particularly address issues that the Straits Areas Youth Promotion Academy (SAYPA) is confronted with everyday including anger management, self-defeating thinking, and anti-social behavior.
When not working with those in recovery, Matt enjoys leisure time at the beach, fishing and Petoskey stone hunting.
